I CAST A SPELL ON YOU !

The sun is lowering in the sky, on a warm day, in New Orleans, a city known for its magic, mystery, voodoo and spells.  Long strands of moss, hanging from tree branches, sway in the breeze, while crickets begin their songs of the evening.  Sultry.  Seductive.  And it all comes together in this one-of-a-kind, very special parasol.  Do you have what it takes to carry this off?  And, just who, will you be casting your spell on?

Black organza, and a fine black netting, covered in embroidered, and beaded branch silhouettes.  And what could be more alluring and downright sexy, than black ostrich feathers, floating dreamily around the edge?  The handle, imported from Italy, has a row of clear Swarovski crystals, that wrap around the handle.

This very special parasol, will be on display, and sale, beginning February 9, 2018, at One Flower One Leaf Art Gallery, 436 Marine Drive, Gibsons, BC.  If you can’t make it down to One Flower One Leaf Gallery, then e-mail me (joan@barringtonbrolly.com) for more information on this very special parasol.

NEW DARK BROWN WOOD-FRAMES FOR HISTORICAL REPRODUCTION PARASOLS

Just this past November, we took possession of some new frames, created just for Barrington Brolly.  They will be a new addition to our historical parasol offerings.  Similar to our blonde-wood frames, these are dark brown wood, with black metal ribs.  And the ribs are 1” (15.5” long) shorter than those of the blonde-wood frames.

I’m looking forward to using these new frames for reproduction parasols, beginning Spring/Summer of 2018.

Another fund-raiser … The Snowflake Ball, on Valentine’s Day (Feb. 14), 2015

SNOWFLAKE BALL 2015

There is nothing more delightful, than having free-reign in the creation of either an umbrella, or parasol.  And this is just what happened when I was asked if I would support The Snowflake Ball, a fund-raiser for The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), being held in Ottawa, Ontario (February 14, 2015).  There isn’t a better cause, than supporting the work of those in the fight against childhood diseases.

For this event, all I was given was a list of preferred colours.  The rest was up to me.  And I didn’t hold back.   It was such a pleasure, putting these parasols together, and knowing that the money, they helped raise, would be put to this most worthy cause.

Ladies’ Red Serge Gala, 2017 (fund-raiser)

LADIES’ RED SERGE GALA/COPS FOR CANCER

For a number of years now, we’ve been donating product to the Sunshine Coast Ladies’ Red Serge Gala.  This fund-raiser is in support of the Cops For Cancer/Tour de Coast event, that takes place each September.  It raises money for the fight against childhood cancers.

This year, we designed a custom one-off umbrella, using the logos of the various organizations involved.   And, taking out all the stops, we also created a pink and green floral parasol, that is bound to be a show-stopper, regardless of where it pops up.

Broadway musical revival of “Hello, Dolly!

I have worked with theatre, and movie designers, over the years, covering productions across Canada, and the USA. However, the commission I had, early in 2017, was not only exciting, but it also pushed me to new construction successes.

In the Spring of this year, I was very proud to have been chosen, by Santo Loquasto (costume designer, for the Broadway musical revival of “Hello, Dolly!”), to bring his parasol designs to life. With a production this size and scope, nothing is left to chance. All parasol designs would be provided to me, along with all fabrics, trims, measurements, etc.

Playing at the iconic Shubert Theatre, NYC, and starring Bette Midler, David Hyde Pierce, and scores of other actors and actresses, this musical revival has been showing to sold out audiences, since opening in the Spring of 2017.

And, the “icing on the cake” ….. Mr. Loquasto won the 2017 Tony Award for Best Costume Design for a Musical.
